William Klingensmith, 47, of Sanford, Maine, was sentenced to one month in federal prison yesterday by Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr., followed by two years of supervised release for unlawfully possessing firearms. Klingensmith pleaded guilty on August 4, 2016.
Court records reveal that between February 20, 2015, and July 11, 2015, Klingensmith possessed a total of eleven firearms. He was caught using a 9 mm rifle and a Colt 38 revolver for target shooting in Fairfield on June 13, 2015. On July 11, 2015, police discovered another nine firearms in his former residence in Waterville.
In delivering the sentence, Judge Woodcock emphasized that Klingensmith’s felony conviction for firearm possession, coupled with a prior misdemeanor conviction of domestic violence, would result in “no firearms for Mr. Klingensmith forever.”
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in collaboration with the Waterville, Maine, Police Department.
Acting United States Attorney Richard W. Murphy commented on the sentence, “This conviction underscores our commitment to keeping illegal firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals.”
