Orlando, Florida – A grim case of child exploitation reached its conclusion yesterday when U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. sentenced Joshua Alan Dunlap, 38, from South Carolina, to 20 years in federal prison.
Dunlap pleaded guilty on November 20, 2017, for attempting to entice a minor into sexual activity and traveling to engage in sexual conduct with a minor. The court also ordered him to forfeit his iPhone, used in the crime.
The court documents revealed that Dunlap communicated with undercover agents between July 25 and July 30, 2017, with intentions of setting up meetings with two fictitious minors. His plan included teaching the 11-year-old about ‘bondage, domination, submission, sadistic, and masochist conduct,’ and he planned to take her to a ‘play dungeon’ he described as his own.
At Dunlap’s home in St. Johns County during his arrest, agents uncovered a room that matched his ‘play dungeon’ description, complete with whips, sex toys, masks, and personalized dog collars labeled ‘Joshua’s Pet’ and ‘Joshua’s Toy.’ A 4-poster bed with chains and eyebolts was also found.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilianys Rivera Miranda.
Bringing Dunlap to justice is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative led by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. More information about this initiative can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
