Jaysen Lane Heyer, 39, of Squaw Lake, Minn., has been sentenced to 175 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. This sentence is the result of a guilty plea entered by Heyer on September 8, 2017.
The sentencing, which was handed down by Judge Susan Richard Nelson in U.S. District Court in Saint Paul, Minn., stems from an incident on December 28, 2016, in which Heyer was found to be in possession of approximately 199 grams of methamphetamine. This amount of methamphetamine carries a street value of between $8,000 and $12,000.
In addition to the methamphetamine, law enforcement officers also found Heyer to be in possession of stolen firearms, including a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 .40 caliber pistol and an Intratec Tech-DC9 9-millimeter pistol, as well as ammunition for both firearms. As a felon, Heyer is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms at any time.
The case against Heyer was the result of an investigation conducted by the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Deidre Y. Aanstad prosecuted this case.
Heyer’s sentence includes 175 months in prison, to be followed by four years of supervised release. The severity of this sentence reflects the serious nature of the crimes committed by Heyer, including the possession of a significant amount of methamphetamine and the illegal possession of firearms.
The United States Attorney’s Office, District of Minnesota, announced the sentencing of Heyer. The office can be reached at (612) 664-5600 for more information. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and firearms offenses in the state of Minnesota.
