FLORENCE, SC – James Robert Fix, 46, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has admitted to a depraved act: possessing child pornography. Fix pled guilty in federal court today to a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252A(a)(5)(B), a charge that carries a hefty penalty.
The sickening details emerged from court records. Federal agents raided Fix’s Myrtle Beach residence on November 24, 2015, acting on information he was receiving the illegal material via email. Fix didn’t bother denying it. He confessed to possessing the images and videos and willingly handed over his laptop and cellphone. It was a futile attempt to hide the horror already downloaded.
A forensic examination of the seized devices – the laptop, cellphone, and a thumb drive – confirmed the worst. Agents uncovered a disturbing cache of videos and images depicting the sexual abuse of children. The evidence, presented during the guilty plea hearing, left no doubt about the nature of Fix’s crimes. This wasn’t a momentary lapse; it was a deliberate collection of exploitation.
United States Attorney Beth Drake stated Fix now faces up to 10 years behind bars and a $250,000 fine. United States District Judge Bryan Harwell will determine the final sentence after reviewing a presentence report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office. A date for sentencing has not yet been announced, but justice is slowly creeping toward Fix.
The investigation was spearheaded by agents with ICE- Homeland Security Investigations, who tirelessly pursued the digital trail of abuse. Assistant United States Attorney A. Bradley Parham, of the Florence office, is prosecuting the case, ensuring Fix is held accountable for his actions. This case is a grim reminder of the predators lurking in the digital shadows.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative dedicated to protecting children from online exploitation. Led by the United States Attorney’s Office, the project brings together federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who prey on innocent children. If you suspect child exploitation, report it immediately to the authorities or visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
