Tim Nall, 62, of New Orleans, is going to prison for five years after pleading guilty to receiving images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children. U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the sentence, handed down today by United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier, which marks the end of a federal investigation into Nall’s possession of some of the most disturbing child abuse material uncovered in recent years.
Court documents reveal a grim digital trail: on July 25, 2017, federal agents executed a search warrant at Nall’s residence, seizing a desktop computer, CDs, DVDs, and other storage media. Forensic analysis uncovered approximately 2,080 images and two videos of prepubescent children—some under the age of two—engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Investigators confirmed Nall used the devices to search for, download, and store the illicit material.
Nall admitted to knowingly receiving child pornography, a crime that carries severe federal penalties. In addition to his 60-month prison term, he will be required to pay $5,000 in restitution to victims of child sexual exploitation. The payment is part of a broader legal effort to compensate those whose abuse is endlessly circulated online, long after the initial crimes occurred.
Following his release, Nall will be placed on supervised release and must register as a sex offender—lifelong consequences that underscore the gravity of his actions. Authorities emphasized that even possession of such material fuels ongoing victimization, as demand drives further production of child sexual abuse content.
This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child exploitation. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), the program coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute offenders who use the internet to exploit children.
