Nyanzangusa Baldwin Sentenced in Saigon Sunset Drug Ring

Huntington, W.Va. — Nyanzangusa Baldwin, 45, of Michigan, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 18 months for his role in a heroin distribution ring tied to the notorious Saigon Sunset drug network. Baldwin, also known as “Botch,” pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers.

The bust traces back to August 2017, when federal agents raided a room at the Ramada Inn Motel in Huntington. Inside, they found approximately 35 grams of heroin stashed in plain sight. Baldwin admitted he was distributing the drug at the direction of Manget Peterson, a key figure in a larger Detroit-to-West Virginia drug pipeline.

Baldwin confessed he traveled to Huntington specifically to push heroin under Peterson’s orders. The Ramada Inn became his base of operations—until law enforcement closed in with a search warrant and ended his short-lived street run. The seizure marked a critical link in dismantling the Peterson drug trafficking organization.

‘Another Saigon Sunset and Detroit drug dealer behind bars,’ said U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart. ‘I’ve said from day one that tough is how we’re going to treat drug dealers. And tough we are. All defendants charged last year as part of the Peterson drug trafficking organization have been convicted.’

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie S. Taylor. It stemmed from a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Violent Crime and Drug Task Force West—agencies that have intensified pressure on interstate narcotics rings flooding rural communities with lethal doses.

The Peterson organization’s takedown signals a broader crackdown on out-of-state traffickers exploiting economic desperation in Central Appalachia. Baldwin’s conviction adds to a growing list of Saigon Sunset-linked dealers now serving federal time. The message from prosecutors: cross state lines with heroin, and you’ll pay the price behind bars.
