Baudel Lopez-Rodriguez, a 41-year-old man from Woodall, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to possessing firearms as an illegal alien, according to court documents.
The charges against Lopez-Rodriguez stem from an investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. On December 2, 2016, authorities alleged that Lopez-Rodriguez knowingly possessed firearms and ammunition that had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.
Lopez-Rodriguez’s actions are punishable by not more than 10 years imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000.00, or both, according to the indictment. The court documents did not specify the exact amount of firearms or ammunition in Lopez-Rodriguez’s possession.
The case against Lopez-Rodriguez is a stark reminder of the consequences of violating federal firearms laws. The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to keeping communities safe and upholding the law.
Lopez-Rodriguez’s guilty plea is a significant development in the case, and the court has ordered a presentence investigation report to be completed. Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Wilson represented the United States in this matter.
The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the plea and will consider the sentencing of Lopez-Rodriguez at a later date.
