Sergio Garcia, Fentanyl Distribution, Massachusetts 2024

BOSTON – In a stunning turn of events, Sergio Garcia, 36, from Haverhill, Massachusetts, has been arraigned in federal court for his alleged role in the distribution of deadly fentanyl.

Garcia stands accused of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute at least 400 grams of fentanyl. His arrest comes after a months-long investigation that culminated in his initial appearance yesterday.

The indictment, unsealed on April 23, 2020, reveals that Garcia was in possession of the illicit substance in both Boston and Haverhill between April 20 and April 23 of this year.

This charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and could see Garcia spending his entire life behind bars. Additionally, he faces supervised release of at least five years and a fine that could reach $10 million.

The United States Attorney Andrew Lelling; Joseph W. Cronin of the Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Field Office; and Brian D. Boyle from the DEA’s New England Division were present for the announcement of the charges. The Haverhill Police Department played a crucial role in the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip C. Cheng of Lelling’s Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit leading the prosecution.

This operation was part of a larger multi-agency task force under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which is dedicated to dismantling drug trafficking organizations. For more information on OCDETF, visit their website.

It is important to note that the details in the charging documents are allegations and Garcia is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
