Oklahoma City Gun Runner Harley Sentenced to Seven Years

Oklahoma City – Jahmond Cavell Harley, 26, of Oklahoma City, was sentenced to serve 84 months in federal prison for possession of multiple firearms after a previous felony conviction, announced Timothy J. Downing, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma.

An indictment filed on December 4, 2019, revealed that Harley had an AR-15 style assault rifle and three semi-automatic handguns, which he possessed despite being banned from firearm possession under federal law. He pleaded guilty on February 11, 2020, agreeing to forfeit the seized firearms.

On September 9, 2020, U.S. District Court Judge Scott L. Palk sentenced Harley to 84 months behind bars and three years of supervised release upon his release from prison. Harley’s sentence was influenced by his extensive criminal record, which includes convictions for Burglary in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, Embezzlement, and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.

The evidence at Harley’s sentencing revealed that he was attempting to obtain firearms for leaders of the Sureño’s street gang, an organization involved in transnational drug-trafficking. The FBI arrested Harley on August 15, 2019, after learning of his plans to deliver the weapons to Mexico.

This case was investigated by the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office with assistance from the Oklahoma City Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Jason Harley and David McCrary prosecuted the case as part of the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (“OCDETF”).
