ASHLAND, Ky. – Another dealer pushing poison into our communities is off the streets. Robert Amos, a 33-year-old from Dayton, Ohio, received a hefty 140-month federal prison sentence Monday for his role in trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl. U.S. District Judge David Bunning handed down the punishment, a clear message that the Eastern District of Kentucky won’t tolerate this kind of activity.
The case against Amos unfolded after a routine traffic stop turned into a major bust. Law enforcement discovered Amos was carrying a significant quantity of drugs – 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and fentanyl – with every intention of distributing it. That’s enough to devastate families and fuel addiction across multiple communities. Amos didn’t bother fighting it; he pleaded guilty back in May 2020.
This wasn’t a small-time operation. Federal sentencing guidelines require Amos to serve a minimum of 85 percent of his 140-month sentence. Even after release, he’ll be shackled by six years of supervised probation, a constant reminder of his crimes. Hopefully, it’s enough time to get his life on track, though that’s rarely the case with these types.
The takedown was a joint effort, spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Louisville Field Division, led by Special Agent in Charge J.T. Scott, and the FADE Drug Task Force. U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Robert M. Duncan, Jr., announced the guilty plea, emphasizing the continued commitment to dismantling drug networks.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cynthia Rieker skillfully prosecuted the case, presenting the evidence that sealed Amos’s fate. The DEA and FADE task force spent months building a solid case, and their work paid off. While one dealer is behind bars, the fight against the opioid crisis is far from over. Expect Grimy Times to continue reporting on these cases as they unfold.
