Boston – In a gritty turn of events, Hector Vega, alias ‘King Demon,’ former member of the Connecticut Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation’s Crown Council, pleaded guilty today to racketeering conspiracy charges.
Vega, 34, admitted to conspiring to conduct enterprise affairs through a pattern of racketeering activity, commonly known as RICO conspiracy. Sentencing is set for December 22, 2020. Vega was nabbed in December 2019 when he served as a member of the Crown Council for the Latin Kings in Connecticut.
The Latin Kings, a violent gang with thousands of members across the U.S., are known for their drug distribution operations and fierce territorial disputes. According to court documents, Vega presided over a ‘trial’ against two Massachusetts members. The hearing was supposed to be unbiased, but Vega, along with the Connecticut Crown Council, sentenced both to beatings, an assault he personally participated in.
In December 2019, a federal grand jury indicted 62 Latin Kings leaders, members, and associates on racketeering conspiracy, drug conspiracy, and firearms charges. Vega is the thirteenth defendant to plead guilty.
The RICO conspiracy charge carries up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Sentences are imposed by federal district court judges based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling; Joseph R. Bonavolonta of the FBI Boston Field Division; and Commissioner Carol Mici of the Massachusetts Department of Correction announced the guilty plea. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip A. Mallard and Mark Grady of Lelling’s Criminal Division.
The investigation was conducted by a multi-agency task force through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which aims to dismantle serious drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and money laundering organizations. More information on OCDETF can be found at this link.
The details in the charging documents are allegations. The remaining defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
