Darren J. McCormick Convicted in Meth Mail Scheme

Darren J. McCormick, 33, of Nashville, Georgia, was convicted today after a three-day federal trial in Valdosta for attempting to distribute methamphetamine through the U.S. Mail. A jury found him guilty of one count of possession with intent to distribute, closing a case rooted in repeated drug trafficking through postal channels.

On May 7, 2020, law enforcement moved in after a confidential informant retrieved a suspicious package from a local post office under surveillance. The informant picked up McCormick shortly afterward. Inside the mailed parcel, agents discovered 217 grams of high-purity methamphetamine—enough to fuel hundreds of doses on South Georgia streets.

Court evidence revealed McCormick relied on others to intercept drug-laden mail, a pattern that raised red flags in Berrien County as early as 2020. Prosecutors detailed how the defendant used the postal system as a delivery pipeline, exploiting federal infrastructure to supply deadly narcotics to rural communities.

Mccormick isn’t new to federal lockup. He has a prior federal drug conviction in the Middle District of Georgia, a fact that weighed heavily during trial. Under federal sentencing guidelines, that history triggers a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison, with a maximum stretch of life behind bars and a potential $10,000,000 fine.

‘Darren McCormick’s attempt to receive a significant quantity of methamphetamine through the mail and distribute it into a South Georgia community has been prevented thanks to the efforts of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office,’ said Peter D. Leary, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia. ‘Repeat drug traffickers who push the deadliest narcotics will be held accountable.’

The investigation was led by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah E. McEwen prosecuted the case. Sentencing for Darren J. McCormick has not yet been scheduled.
