Hammond, Indiana – The gritty city of Gary once again finds itself in the headlines as Terryante Flournoy, a 23-year-old from Gary, has been sentenced to a stunning 420 months (35 years) in federal prison. This sentence follows Flournoy’s conviction on multiple counts related to a chilling Hobbs Act robbery that ended in tragedy.
The saga began on November 24, 2019, when Flournoy and an accomplice planned the execution of a pizza delivery driver in Gary. Ordering a pizza to be delivered to an abandoned house, they ambushed the unsuspecting driver upon his arrival. Flournoy’s weapon of choice was an AR-15 style rifle, which he used to fire a deadly shot that struck and killed the delivery man.
Flournoy did not stop there. He also faced charges for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, stemming from prior theft and battery by bodily waste convictions. United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon presided over the sentencing, where Flournoy’s cold-blooded actions were met with a fitting punishment.
This case was the result of an intensive investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Gang Response Investigative Team, Gary Police Department, and the Lake County Metropolitan Homicide Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David J. Nozick and Caitlin M. Padula prosecuted the case with unwavering dedication.
Flournoy’s sentence is a testament to Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a joint federal, state, and local initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN has proven effective in identifying and targeting the most pressing crime problems within communities, resulting in long-term reductions in violence.
This grim chapter of Gary’s history serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by gun violence and the vital role played by law enforcement in keeping our streets safe.
