Deontae Montrice Lott, Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin, IA 2021

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Deontae Montrice Lott, a 39-year-old Davenport resident, faced the bench on Thursday, November 18, 2021, where United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey sentenced him to 137 months in federal prison for Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.

According to court documents, Lott was fingered by law enforcement after they recovered .62 grams of a heroin/fentanyl mixture from his Davenport home in August 2020. A subsequent search warrant at his residence unearthed 77.45 grams of the same deadly mix, a digital scale, $2,020.00 in drug proceeds, and a loaded Taurus nine-millimeter handgun.

In a post-Miranda interview, Lott confessed to selling heroin and admitted his role in the illegal activities. He also confessed to possessing the firearm with intent to use it in furtherance of his drug trafficking endeavors. On June 28, 2021, Lott pleaded guilty to all charges.

The sentence handed down by Judge Jarvey also requires Lott to serve four years of supervised release following his prison term and to contribute $200 to the Crime Victims’ Fund. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation that resulted in Lott’s conviction.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing, emphasizing the severity of the offense. ‘Lott’s actions not only endangered lives but also disrupted drug trafficking operations in our community,’ said Westphal.
