NY Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Cyberstalking and Sextortion

Tampa, Florida – In a chilling case of online harassment and exploitation, Christopher Buonocore, 35, from Hicksville, NY, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for cyberstalking and sextortion. The court also imposed a restitution order of $164,295.01 in favor of the victims.

Buonocore’s heinous campaign spanned over seven years, during which he used fictitious phone numbers, text messages, and social media accounts to harass six women, including a minor. He posted thousands of explicit images and personal information online, soliciting others to join in his harassment and even attempting ‘sextortion’.

Despite being confronted by victims who suffered emotional and psychological trauma, Buonocore persisted. FBI Tampa Division Special Agent in Charge Michael McPherson commended the bravery of the victims, urging anyone with similar experiences to come forward.

Sextortion involves threats to distribute private material unless the victim complies with demands for explicit images or money. Cyberstalking and sextortion are serious crimes, and the FBI encourages reporting such incidents at 1-800-CALL FBI (225-5324).

This case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa M. Thelwell.
