October 31, 1912, was a day of confusion in Bakersfield, California. Sheriff Baker, the smallest sheriff in the state of California, had his identity compromised. It turned out that Baker, who claimed to have two deputies smaller than he is, was actually a man named Sheriff Baker from Kern County, California. He was at the Bisbee train station, sporting a dapper title of ‘Judge Rumanjuscr,’ wearing a neat brown business suit, shoes, and smoking a cigar of the ‘unspeakable Turkish kind.’
