Liburd Sentenced to 32 Years for Brooklyn Racketeering

Michael Liburd, a notorious member of the Coney Island-based gang West End Enterprise, was today sentenced to 32 years’ imprisonment by United States District Court Judge Edward R. Korman for his involvement in a deadly racketeering conspiracy. The sentence is a result of Liburd’s conviction on charges related to the 2016 murder of Antwon Flowers and the extortion of public works employees in Coney Island.

United States Attorney Breon Peace, Assistant Director-in-Charge Michael J. Driscoll of the FBI New York Field Office, DEA Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Keith Kruskall, and NYPD Commissioner Dermot F. Shea all announced Liburd’s sentence, emphasizing their commitment to combating violent street gangs.

Liburd and his co-conspirators were involved in a litany of crimes including robbery, witness intimidation, retaliatory shootings against rival gang members, and the chilling murder of Antwon Flowers. On January 17, 2016, Liburd shot Flowers in the back of the head in retaliation for a prior gang-related killing.

This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and enhancing community safety. Assistant United States Attorneys Jennifer M. Sasso, Kayla C. Bensing, and Lindsey R. Oken handled the prosecution on behalf of the government.

Liburd’s co-defendant, Maurice Washington, was previously sentenced to 25 years for his role in the racketeering conspiracy and murder. The sentence handed down today serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences faced by those who engage in criminal activities within our communities.
