HONOLULU – In a landmark ruling, Micah Austin Goodale, 27, from Queen Creek, Arizona, was today sentenced to three years in federal prison for his monstrous act of cyberstalking and revenge porn. The sentence, handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge J. Michael Seabright, also mandates three years of supervised release following his imprisonment.
Goodale’s treacherous behavior began when he recorded sexually explicit videos of a former adult female partner without her consent. After their relationship ended, he uploaded these materials to a notorious pornographic website, publicly exposing the victim and sharing her personal information, including her full name, phone number, and address. He further taunted her by posting links to these videos on her Facebook account and creating a Twitter profile in her name, disseminating additional sexually explicit content.
The harassment didn’t stop there. On November 13, 2019, Goodale logged onto the victim’s Hawaii-based Facebook account and posted the links for all of her social network to see. His actions didn’t end with Facebook, as he also used various electronic means to send menacing messages directly to the victim and on public messaging boards.
Acting U.S. Attorney Judith A. Philips remarked that cyberstalking and revenge pornography are modern forms of harassment facilitated by social media technology. ‘The digital nature of these crimes presents unprecedented potential for harm, and those who abuse this technology will be held accountable,’ she said.
Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Steven Merrill echoed the sentiment. ‘Micah Goodale’s actions were despicable. He not only terrorized his victim but also disrupted her life, causing immense distress. Today’s sentencing is a victory against cyberstalkers and illustrates our dedication to justice. The FBI will continue to hold such individuals accountable,’ he declared.
The investigation leading to Goodale’s indictment was spearheaded by the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregg Paris Yates handling the prosecution.
