Sioux City Meth Dealer Antonovich Gets 4+ Years

SIOUX CITY, IA – Another drug pusher is off the streets of Sioux City, thanks to a federal conviction. Matthew Antonovich, 39, was sentenced to over four years in federal prison on February 1, 2023, for peddling methamphetamine and illegally possessing a firearm. The sentence sends a clear message: dealing poison and breaking the law in this region will land you behind bars.

Antonovich pleaded guilty on June 21, 2022, to charges of felon in possession of a firearm and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Court documents reveal Antonovich admitted to actively conspiring to sell meth throughout the Sioux City area. Adding insult to injury, he’s a convicted felon, making the possession of a short-barreled shotgun a blatant violation of federal law. He wasn’t just dealing drugs; he was armed while doing it.

The sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City. Antonovich received a 50-month prison term, a substantial punishment for his crimes. But it doesn’t stop there. Upon his release, he’ll be subject to a three-year term of supervised release – a period where his movements will be closely monitored. Don’t expect early release either; there’s no parole in the federal system.

Currently, Antonovich is in the custody of the United States Marshals, awaiting transport to a designated federal prison facility. The investigation, a coordinated effort between multiple agencies, underscores the commitment to dismantling drug networks in Iowa and beyond. Those involved included the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Department, the Sioux City Police Department, the South Sioux City Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, the United States Postal Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers prosecuted the case, building a solid case against Antonovich. This conviction represents a significant blow to the drug trade in Sioux City, but the Grimy Times will continue to report on the never-ending fight against crime.
