BOSTON – In a stunning turn of events, Kevin Dombroski, the 43-year-old supervisor of the U.S. Postal Service in Worcester, was sentenced today to 13 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release after being caught red-handed in a mail-theft cocaine scheme.
U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni handed down the sentence after Dombroski pleaded guilty to one count of theft of mail by an employee of the U.S. Postal Service. The charges stem from Dombroski’s sly maneuvering, which involved stealing packages邮寄 from Puerto Rico to addresses in Worcester that he suspected contained cocaine.
According to court documents, Dombroski, while employed at the Worcester Main Post Office, systematically targeted these packages. He would discreetly remove them from the main processing area and make his way to a private office where he would open the parcels, extract the illegal substances, and then return the packages to circulation for delivery. His ill-gotten gains went straight into his pocket as he sold the drugs to an associate for $7,500 per package.
The brazen operation came to light in August 2022 when Dombroski’s guilty plea was entered. His actions not only compromised the integrity of the Postal Service but also threatened public safety by facilitating the distribution of illegal drugs.
United States Attorney Rachael S. Rollins, Special Agent in Charge Matthew Modafferi of the Northeast Area Field Office of the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General, and Special Agent in Charge Matthew Millhollin for Homeland Security Investigations in New England all announced Dombroski’s conviction. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen Noto from Rollins’ Worcester Branch Office prosecuted the case with determination.
As the justice system delivers its verdict on this shocking case, it serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some will go to for personal gain and the vigilance required to maintain the integrity of public services.
