BUFFALO, N.Y. – Maria D’Amato, 28, of Buffalo, NY, is facing a charge of producing child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross.
The grim allegations come with a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright revealed that D’Amato was accused following an incident involving the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, the so-called Minor Victim. The assault came to light when the girl’s sister discovered images and videos on her phone, leading to a police investigation.
The case has been led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Human Trafficking Task Force, under Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Darren Cox, in collaboration with the Town of Tonawanda Police Department, directed by Chief James Stauffiger.
It is crucial to note that charges against D’Amato are mere allegations and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
