59-Year-Old York Man Indicted for Gun Crimes

A 59-year-old York County man is facing serious prison time after being indicted on federal firearms charges. Isiah Smith, age 59, of York, Pennsylvania, was indicted on April 3, 2024, by a federal grand jury for allegedly possessing an unregistered firearm without a serial number and transferring it in violation of the National Firearms Act.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictment alleges that on or about December 7, 2022, Smith possessed an unregistered firearm and transferred the firearm in violation of federal law. In addition to the firearm charges, Smith is also accused of possessing ammunition when he was prohibited by law from doing so.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the York County Drug Task Force, and the York County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Wesley (Wes) Mishoe is prosecuting the case.

The maximum penalty under federal law for the indicted offenses is a combined 45 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, a fine, and special assessment. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Smith is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case is ongoing, and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
