Addison Jones, 28, is facing a return trip to federal prison after investigators say he attempted to solicit sexually explicit material from a 10-year-old boy online. The Kansas City man, already a registered sex offender, was nabbed this week after a probe by the FBI. According to court documents, Jones allegedly engaged in online communication trying to coerce the minor into sending him compromising photos.

The feds were already watching Jones, and thankfully, the attempt never resulted in actual images. But prosecutors say intent is enough. Jones is now charged with attempted production of child pornography, and a separate charge related to violating the terms of his sex offender registration.

This isn’t Jones’s first brush with the law. His prior conviction landed him on the sex offender registry. Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa A. Moore is handling the prosecution. The case falls under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort to crack down on child sexual exploitation.

An indictment is just the starting point – Jones still has to prove his innocence to a jury. But if convicted on these charges, he’s looking at a lengthy stretch behind bars. Details on his initial court appearance haven’t been released.
