D.C. Bank Bandit Pleads Guilty to Armed Heist

WASHINGTON – In a brazen daylight heist, 35-year-old Ronald Lamont Jenkins pleaded guilty to robbing a Northeast Washington D.C bank branch of an undisclosed amount of cash in June 2022.

Jenkins, a D.C. resident, targeted the bank branch on the 900 block of Rhode Island Avenue on June 13, 2022, entering the bank at approximately [time] and brandishing a black-and-gold handgun tucked into his waistband.

According to court documents, Jenkins approached the counter and ordered the teller to ‘open the drawer.’ As the teller complied, Jenkins reached over the counter and grabbed a large amount of cash before quickly fleeing the scene.

FBI Agents quickly apprehended Jenkins, tracing his flight path and recovering a pair of neon yellow gloves, a black hooded sweatshirt, a pair of brown shoes, a pair of sweatpants, and a black face mask – all of which matched the clothing worn during the robbery.

A subsequent laboratory review discovered Jenkins’ DNA on the clothing, leading to his arrest on November 15, 2023. Jenkins has been detained since his arrest.

This case was investigated by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force with assistance from the Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney James B. Nelson is prosecuting the case.

Jenkins is scheduled to be sentenced on August 21, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Randolph D. Moss. He faces a charge of bank robbery, a federal offense carrying significant prison time.
