MOBILE, AL – A Mobile man was sentenced to 37 months in prison for illegally possessing a machinegun.
Ninety minutes of high-speed chaos ended with a brick mailbox, a Glock pistol, and a machinegun-conversion device. Naquarius Isaiah Braxton, 23, led Mobile police on a wild goose chase after running a stop sign and failing to signal a turn. Exceeding 80 miles per hour through a residential neighborhood, Braxton lost control of his car and struck a brick mailbox before bailing out with a Glock pistol in his right hand.
Officers caught Braxton in the backyard of a nearby house and took him into custody. The pistol was found lying in the grass nearby, modified with a machinegun-conversion device, also known as a ‘Glock switch,’ which rendered the pistol a fully automatic weapon.
A search of the abandoned vehicle turned up a 60-round drum magazine containing 38 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition and a full-faced ski mask. Officers also discovered two plastic baggies containing marijuana on the front floorboard.
An examination of Braxton’s Instagram accounts revealed evidence of his possession of illegally modified weapons. Pictures and videos showed Braxton holding Glock pistols equipped with machinegun-conversion devices and drum magazines, including the pistol seized by officers on March 4, 2023.
Senior United States District Judge William H. Steele handed down the 37-month prison sentence, along with a three-year term of supervised release upon Braxton’s release from prison. The court did not impose a fine, but Judge Steele ordered Braxton to pay $100 in special assessments. U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama made the announcement.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Mobile Police Department investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuting on behalf of the United States.
