Jackson Man Indicted on Federal Gun and Drug Charges
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – A Mississippi man is facing serious time behind bars after being indicted on federal gun and drug charges.
According to court documents, 39-year-old Jarvis Wilson, a resident of Jackson, Mississippi, was charged on May 9, 2024, by a federal grand jury in a six-count indictment announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.
The indictment charges Wilson with distribution of 500 grams or more of methamphetamine (Counts 1 and 2), distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine (Count 3), being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition (Count 4), possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime (Count 5), and maintaining a drug involved premises (Count 6).
If convicted, Wilson faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years up to life of imprisonment, up to a $10,000,000 fine, and at least 5 years of supervised release for Counts 1 and 2. For Count 3, he could face a mandatory minimum of 5 years up to 40 years of imprisonment, up to a $5,000,000 fine, and at least 4 years of supervised release.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. Wilson was also a felon in possession of a Ruger Model LCR, .22 caliber revolver and Smith and Wesson Model 1000 Super, 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition in the furtherance of his drug trafficking crimes.
The case was investigated by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell of the Violent Crime Unit.
U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Wilson faces a $100 mandatory special assessment fee as to all 6 counts. This case is a stark reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine trafficking and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat it.
