A Buffalo man is facing the consequences of his crimes after pleading guilty to selling synthetic drugs.
Carlo D’Angelo, 45, of Buffalo, NY, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. to possession with intent to distribute alpha-pyrrolidinopentiophenone (a-PVP), a synthetic drug that’s wreaking havoc on communities across the country.
a-PVP, also known as synthetic cathinone, is a highly addictive and potent substance that’s often sold as a designer drug. D’Angelo was caught with a stash of the drug in May 2021, when he was located at a hotel in Amherst, NY.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright, who’s handling the case, D’Angelo had approximately 6.1 grams of a-PVP, which he intended to sell. He was also found with glass pipes with burnt residue, multiple plastic containers consistent with the manufacture of a-PVP, and $5,100.00 in cash, proceeds of drug trafficking.
The plea is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarantino, III, New York Field Division. The DEA is working tirelessly to disrupt the supply chain of synthetic drugs, and D’Angelo’s guilty plea is a major victory in this effort.
D’Angelo could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and fined a maximum of $1,000,000. Sentencing is scheduled for October 9, 2024, before Judge Sinatra.
The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of synthetic drugs on our communities. a-PVP is a highly addictive substance that can lead to overdose, violence, and even death. The guilty plea of Carlo D’Angelo is a step in the right direction, and we hope that it will serve as a warning to others who are involved in the sale and distribution of these deadly substances.
