NASHVILLE, TN – Jonathon Aaron Ladd, 30, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, will spend over 17 years behind bars after being sentenced yesterday for a sickening crime: the production and distribution of child pornography. The sentence, handed down by a federal judge, reflects the gravity of Ladd’s actions and the devastating harm he inflicted on vulnerable children.
According to court documents, in 2020, Ladd made a sexually explicit video recording of a six-year-old girl who was in his care. This wasn’t a momentary lapse in judgment; he actively sought to share the abuse. He then disseminated that video, alongside another equally disturbing recording of a different child, through an online chat application notorious for attracting sexual predators. The content was willingly shared with others who share similar depraved interests.
A federal grand jury returned an indictment in 2021, charging Ladd with one count each of production of child pornography, transportation of child pornography, and distribution of child pornography. He initially attempted to fight the charges, but ultimately pleaded guilty on September 21, 2023, to all counts. The plea offered no explanation, no remorse – just acceptance of the consequences.
“Protecting children will always be a top priority for the Justice Department,” stated United States Attorney Henry C. Leventis for the Middle District of Tennessee. “In this case, as a result of the excellent work done by law enforcement and members of our office, the defendant will spend the next 17 years in federal prison and far away from children.” The 210-month sentence will be followed by 10 years of supervised release, a small measure of control after his release.
Rana Saoud, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Nashville, emphasized the collaborative effort that brought Ladd to justice. “This sentencing is a prime example of the joint efforts in which HSI works with our law enforcement partners to rescue children who are being sexually exploited,” Saoud said. “Let this be a warning to anyone who engages in the abhorrent behavior of producing and distributing child sexual assault material. Our investigators work tirelessly…to deliver justice.” The investigation involved HSI, the FBI Memphis Field Office (Nashville Resident Agency), and the Metro Nashville Police Department.
This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 aimed at combating the rampant epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project funnels federal, state, and local resources towards identifying, rescuing, and prosecuting those who prey on children online. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie Daughtrey led the prosecution.
