Chicago Man Convicted of Federal Gun Charge
HAMMOND, IN – In a disturbing case of gun violence, 28-year-old Hamidullah Tribble of Chicago, Illinois has been convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The conviction came after a two-day jury trial before United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon.
The guilty verdict was announced by United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson. Tribble’s sentencing will be scheduled at a later date, with the exact sentence to be determined by the District Court Judge after considering federal statutes and the United States Sentencing Guidelines.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly L. Schultz prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Project Safe Neighborhoods was launched in May 2021, with a focus on strengthening the program based on core principles such as fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
