Felony Felon Snagged for 4 Guns, 9 Machine Gun Mods, and a Loaded Glock

A convicted felon in Washington DC has been locked up for good after getting caught with a stash of illegal guns and machine gun conversion devices.

On November 26, 2022, Jean-Robert Jean-Baptiste, Jr., 33, was arrested in Southeast Washington D.C. after tossing a loaded Glock 9mm firearm to the ground. The firearm was equipped with a machine gun conversion device and a 31-round capacity magazine, containing 30 additional rounds of ammunition.

Baptiste had been under surveillance by MPD officers patrolling the 4400 block of F Street SE. Investigators recovered a Glock Model 19X 9mm, a Micro Draco semiautomatic pistol with a drum magazine, and four rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition from his bedroom during a search warrant executed on October 19, 2022.

In total, authorities seized 9 Glock switch machine gun conversion devices, 16 assorted 9mm, 10mm, .40 caliber, and 7.62 caliber magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and multiple large capacity magazines.

Baptiste pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia on January 3, 2024, to two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, and two counts of possession of a machine gun. U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan sentenced him to 66 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Baptiste previously served 120 months of imprisonment in May 2013 for conspiracy and assault with a dangerous weapon in D.C. Superior Court.

The case was investigated by the MPD as part of Project Safe Neighborhood and the ATF Washington Field Division. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alicia Long, Allison McGuire, and Thomas Strong are prosecuting the case.
