CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – In a devastating blow to the North Central West Virginia methamphetamine trade, 42-year-old Joseph Herbert Hobbs of Reynoldsville, West Virginia, was handed a 35-year prison sentence for possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Hobbs’ downfall came after a thorough investigation by the Greater Harrison Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, which uncovered his role as a major source of methamphetamine in the region.
According to court documents and statements in court, Hobbs worked with a network of distributors to sell the highly addictive and destructive substance, wreaking havoc on the community and perpetuating a cycle of addiction and violence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Flower prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, using evidence gathered by the task force to build a strong case against Hobbs.
Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case, imposing the maximum sentence allowed under federal law for Hobbs’ crimes.
The 35-year sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of involvement in the methamphetamine trade, and a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies in West Virginia.
Hobbs’ lengthy prison sentence serves as a warning to those involved in the methamphetamine trade, and a message of hope to the families and communities affected by this devastating crime.
With this conviction, the people of West Virginia can take comfort in knowing that their government is committed to fighting the war on methamphetamine, and that those who perpetuate this scourge will be held accountable.
