A Mexican national was sentenced to 97 months in prison for her role in a major meth and fentanyl trafficking operation.

Sandra Araceli Diaz Vazquez, 37, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was found guilty of intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine after a lengthy investigation by federal agencies.

According to court documents, Diaz Vazquez was stopped by law enforcement along Interstate 20 near Colorado City after committing two moving violations. During the traffic stop, she consented to a vehicle search, which revealed approximately 20.2 kilograms of methamphetamine and 5.6 kilograms of fentanyl concealed within the fuel tank.

The discovery was made on December 5, 2023, and marked a significant blow to the trafficking operation, which had been bringing large quantities of narcotics into the United States.

U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas praised the efforts of the investigators and prosecutors who brought the case to a successful conclusion.

HSI and the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office were instrumental in the investigation, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Amy Greenbaum and Scott Greenbaum.

Diaz Vazquez was sentenced in a federal court in Pecos, Texas, and will serve 97 months behind bars for her crimes.
