Felon in Possession of Firearm Sends 24-Year-Old Seminole Man to Prison
MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – A Seminole man has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for a serious firearms violation, authorities announced today.
John Arthur Dennis, 24, of Seminole, was sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of Felon in Possession of Firearm, a charge that carries significant prison time. According to investigators, on November 14, 2021, Dennis knowingly possessed two firearms after having been previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year imprisonment.
The investigation into Dennis’s activities was a joint effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department, and the Ardmore Police Department. The probe ultimately led to the recovery of the firearms and the subsequent conviction of Dennis.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the sentencing hearing. Dennis will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
Assistant United States Attorney T. Cameron McEwen represented the United States in the case against Dennis.
The conviction and sentencing of Dennis serve as a reminder of the serious consequences that individuals face when they engage in serious firearms violations. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma will continue to work tirelessly to protect the citizens of Oklahoma from those who would seek to break the law and harm our communities.
The case against Dennis is a testament to the effectiveness of the joint investigation and the commitment of the U.S. Attorney’s Office to seeking justice for victims of crime.
