Clearwater Child Predator Gets 7 Years for Sick Images

A Clearwater man has been sentenced to a hefty prison term for his role in a sick child sex abuse material ring. Robert Boyan Carra, 44, of Clearwater, was sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in federal prison for receiving, distributing, and possessing child sex abuse material.

According to court documents, federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed a search warrant at Carra’s residence in April 2023, uncovering more than 300 videos and images of child sex abuse material on his electronic devices. A follow-up raid at Tampa International Airport in June 2023 led to the seizure of his cellphone, which revealed over 700 additional images and videos of child sex abuse material.

Carra’s guilt was confirmed when he entered a guilty plea in federal court on January 12, 2024. He was subsequently ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution to the victims of his heinous crimes.

“This sentencing for the receipt, distribution, and possession of child sex abuse material reaffirms HSI’s unwavering commitment to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to seek out those who exploit our children’s innocence,” said HSI Tampa Assistant Special Agent in Charge Kristopher Pagitt.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations – Tampa, in partnership with the Pinellas Park Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin Claire Favorit.

This sentencing is just one of many cases brought under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

As the scourge of child sex abuse material continues to plague our nation, it’s cases like this that serve as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation in the fight against these heinous crimes.
