BECKLEY, W.Va. – Kevin Lemar Legrand, a 23-year-old from Beaver, has admitted to selling dangerous fentanyl, marking a significant victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking. According to court documents and statements made during his hearing, Legrand sold approximately 7.2 grams of the lethal substance for $600 to an informant on February 16, 2023. The sale occurred at his residence in Beaver. However, this was not Legrand’s first offense, as he also confessed to selling a total of about 6.2 grams of fentanyl for $1,200 on two separate occasions earlier in February.
Legrand now faces a stern penalty for his actions. He is scheduled for sentencing on October 4, 2024, where he may be handed a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, mandatory supervised release for at least three years, and a fine that could reach $1 million.
The investigation was led by the United States Attorney Will Thompson, who praised the collaborative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit. This unit is comprised of officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and the Beckley Police Department.
The hearing was presided over by United States Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn, with Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons handling the prosecution.
