Michigan Man Sentenced for Child Pornography Production

Justin Jack Miller, a 30-year-old man from Escanaba, Michigan, has been sentenced to 204 months in prison for his role in the production of child pornography. Miller’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to documents in the case, between August 2022 and September 2022, Miller misrepresented himself as a 14-year-old male using a social media application to knowingly persuade and entice, and attempt to persuade and entice a minor under the age of twelve to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such conduct.

Miller’s guilty plea was the result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Valparaiso Police Department, the Indiana State Police, the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Michigan State Police, and the Escanaba Department of Public Safety.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nadia D. Wardrip, as part of Project Safe Childhood. Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. The program was created by the Department of Justice in 2006 and is led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.

As part of his sentence, Miller will also serve life on supervised release. The harsh sentence is a result of the severity of Miller’s crimes and the harm caused to the victims.

The investigation and prosecution of Miller’s case is a prime example of the importance of the Project Safe Childhood initiative. The program has been instrumental in bringing to justice individuals who exploit and abuse children, and in identifying and rescuing victims.
