Dedham Fraudster Pleads Guilty to Bank Loan Swindle

BOSTON – The grimy headlines of federal crime once again shine on Dedham’s Wyoming Killingbarrows, who today pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts to a multi-count scheme that bilked banks out of over $329,000.

Patricio Junio Brito Pontes Barros, 30, better known by his alias, submitted 18 fraudulent bank loan applications between June 2, 2021, and July 17, 2021. Under the guise of Patricio Barros, he falsified paystubs from a fictitious company to misrepresent his income, resulting in loans totaling $329,002. The money vanished into personal investments, leaving banks high and dry.

Killingbarrows now faces a life sentence on four counts of bank fraud, each carrying up to 30 years behind bars. The charge of money laundering adds another 10 years to his potential sentence. Sentencing is scheduled for October 2, 2025, under the harsh penalties outlined in U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and her team were swift in their pursuit of justice. Special Agents from the U.S. Secret Service and Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation played pivotal roles in the investigation that led to Killingbarrows’ downfall. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian J. Sullivan is tasked with bringing this white-collar criminal to justice.

The court’s decision on his future will be based not only on the severity of the fraud but also on the impact on the victims, who include financial institutions and individuals who were defrauded out of their hard-earned money.

This case serves as a stark reminder that no matter how sophisticated the scheme, justice ultimately prevails. The Dedham community can take solace in knowing that the man who attempted to pull off the biggest bank fraud in recent memory will soon face the full brunt of the law.
