Crank Sentenced For Felon Gun Possession In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A convicted felon, Michael Angelo Crank, 44, of Charlotte, has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm, following a shooting incident that involved minors. The sentence was announced by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

Crank’s conviction stems from an August 15, 2024, incident where he discharged a firearm during an argument at T.T.’s residence, while her young children were present. Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to the scene and executed a search warrant that led to the seizure of five discharged 9mm shell cases, two firearms, multiple magazines, and ammunition. Both seized firearms had been reported stolen.

Crank has an extensive criminal history, including state felony convictions for Assault on a Female and Felony Possession of Cocaine, as well as a federal conviction in South Carolina for conspiracy, using, carrying, and possessing firearms during drug trafficking crimes.

On October 29, 2024, Crank pleaded guilty to the charge. He is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a facility.

The investigation was led by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and CMPD, with prosecution handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.

This sentence is yet another example of the ongoing efforts to combat gun violence and ensure public safety in the Charlotte area.
