OKLAHOMA CITY – A Mexican national, José Reyes Zamora-De La Torre, 33, has been sentenced to serve 14 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after a prior removal. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
On January 16, 2025, Zamora-De La Torre was found to be within the United States, having been previously removed to Mexico on May 31, 2024. His return came after an arrest on warrants for assault and battery upon a police officer, public intoxication, obstruction of an officer, and malicious injury to property valued at less than $1,000.
These charges were in addition to his illegal reentry charge, which was filed on February 28, 2025. Zamora-De La Torre pleaded guilty on April 4, 2025, admitting to knowingly returning without proper consent.
U.S. District Judge David L. Russell imposed the 14-month sentence during a hearing on July 22, 2025. The judge cited Zamora-De La Torre’s other criminal conduct while in the U.S. illegally as a factor in his sentence.
The investigation leading to this conviction was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bow Bottomly prosecuted the case.
This sentencing is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at repelling illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime.
