Jatrail Avent, Racketeering-Shooting, New Jersey 2022

Newark, N.J. — Four members of the notorious 4K street gang in Paterson have been hit with serious racketeering charges after being implicated in a shooting incident. According to Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, Jatrail Avent (‘Curry’), Shequan Roberts (‘Shingy’), Jahmir Moody (‘Jahdi’), and Wizair Johnson (‘Wababy’) are all accused of committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering activity and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

The Superseding Indictment against the gang members also includes individual firearms charges, stemming from their involvement with the 4K Enterprise, which operates in Paterson’s Rosa Parks Boulevard area. The gang has been involved in numerous criminal acts, including shootings, robberies, homicides, and drug trafficking, often targeting members of rival gangs.

On November 6, 2022, the defendants are alleged to have opened fire on a rival gang, the 230 Boyz, who were inside a van. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison for the violent crime charge and at least 10 years for the firearm offense.

The investigation into this case was a collaborative effort between the FBI, ATF, Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies. Acting U.S. Attorney Habba commended these law enforcement agencies for their efforts in bringing the charges against the gang members.

This latest action is part of the Paterson Violent Crime Initiative (VCI), a partnership formed to combat violent crime in the city. The VCI brings together federal, state, and local agencies to pool resources in the fight against crime.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca Sussman and Dan Rosenblum are representing the government in this case. As always, the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
