Mackey Pleads Guilty

A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to a close with the guilty plea of Jonathan Travis Mackey, a 46-year-old man from Loveland, Ohio. Mackey pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to sexually exploiting an 11-year-old child.

According to court documents, Mackey admitted to exploiting the child victim in person while employed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). As part of his plea, Mackey immediately resigned from the FDIC, a move that reflects the severity of his crimes.

The plea document recommends a prison sentence of 180 to 262 months in federal prison, which translates to 15 to nearly 22 years behind bars. This sentence reflects the serious nature of Mackey’s offenses and the need to protect society from individuals who prey on vulnerable children.

The case against Mackey began to unfold in May 2024, when he created photos of the abuse, including a digital photo that depicted him directly engaged in sexual conduct with the victim. This shocking evidence led to his indictment by a federal grand jury on April 30.

The investigation and prosecution of Mackey’s case involved a collaborative effort between several law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Detroit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the FDIC Office of Inspector General Electronic Crimes Unit, and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Kyle J. Healey and Danielle E. Margeaux represented the United States in this case.

Kelly A. Norris, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, and other officials involved in the case, have demonstrated a commitment to holding individuals accountable for their crimes and protecting the most vulnerable members of society. The guilty plea of Jonathan Travis Mackey serves as a reminder that those who exploit and harm children will face serious consequences for their actions.

In a statement, officials emphasized the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the need for continued vigilance in combating child exploitation. As this case comes to a close, it serves as a reminder of the critical work being done to protect children and hold perpetrators accountable for their heinous crimes.
