GRIMY NEWS: Omar Barrientos, a 35-year-old from Sioux City, Iowa, has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in federal court.
The plea hearing revealed that on June 20, 2024, Barrientos was found sleeping in a vehicle at Thompson Electric parking lot. Law enforcement discovered a white crystalline substance believed to be meth and later recovered just under a pound of the drug from beneath the driver’s seat.
Barrientos has a previous rap sheet including convictions for willful injury and criminal gang participation, and he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment. Sentencing is pending before Judge Leonard T. Strand.
The Tri-State Drug Task Force, which includes DEA agents and local law enforcement, led the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Kraig R. Hamit is prosecuting the case.
