Mission Man Gets 15 Years for Brutal Attacks

PIERRE, SD – Eric Roubideaux, II, 21, of Mission, South Dakota, will spend the next 15 years in federal prison for a savage spree of violence that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured. U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte handed down the sentence on August 19, 2025, following Roubideaux’s guilty plea.

The brutality unfolded in the early hours of July 7, 2024, on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation. Roubideaux first turned on a family member, launching a vicious attack with a garden hoe and then repeatedly kicking and stomping her while she was on the ground. The victim suffered a concussion and a scalp laceration requiring immediate medical attention, but thankfully survived. Roubideaux didn’t stop there.

Fleeing the initial attack, Roubideaux encountered a man walking on a street. He immediately confronted and attacked the man with a stick, knocking him to the ground. The assault escalated into a brutal stomping, with Roubideaux repeatedly kicking the man in the head. The victim succumbed to blunt force trauma injuries. Roubideaux was apprehended shortly after, but the damage was irreversible.

Roubideaux was indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2024, and pleaded guilty on May 19, 2025, to charges of Voluntary Manslaughter and Assault With a Dangerous Weapon. Judge Schulte sentenced him to 15 years for the manslaughter charge and 10 years for the assault, to be served concurrently. Following his prison term, Roubideaux will face three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The case landed in federal court due to the Major Crimes Act, a statute mandating federal prosecution of certain violent crimes occurring within Indian Country. This ensures accountability when jurisdictional lines blur. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services conducted the investigation, bringing the evidence that secured this conviction.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuted the case. Roubideaux was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the impact of violent crime in Indian Country.
