KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The grimy streets of Kansas City were hit with a severe blow as Mexican national Geovanni L. Cano, 39, was charged in a six-count criminal complaint for distribution and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. This development comes after a significant seizure of the illegal substance.
Cano’s alleged activities began in January 2025, when he distributed roughly seven kilograms of meth through six controlled buys conducted by law enforcement in Kansas City. The defendant was acting as an agent for a Mexico-based broker, according to court documents.
On Aug. 28, 2025, the feds moved in, apprehending Cano with 3.7 kilograms of meth during his possession. A subsequent federal search warrant at Cano’s Kansas City, Ks., residence uncovered an additional 18.6 kilograms of the drug, solidifying the scope of the operation.
The charges against Cano are merely accusations, with the burden of proof resting on a federal trial jury to determine guilt or innocence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashleigh Ragner is leading the prosecution of this case, which was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, and IRS-Criminal Investigations. The Missouri Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) played a pivotal role in the investigation as part of Operation Take Back America.
Established by Executive Order 14159, Protecting the American People Against Invasion, Operation Take Back America is a fierce nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), protecting communities from violent crime, and repelling illegal immigration. It consolidates efforts from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
