Viljar Eduardo Rosales-Lara, Meth Possession, Texas 2024

BEAUMONT, Texas – In a high-profile sentencing in the Eastern District of Texas, Viljar Eduardo Rosales-Lara, 35, a Honduran national, was handed a 33-month federal prison sentence for possessing contraband. The judgment was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Rosales-Lara’s crime spree hit a snag when he was caught with 15 individually wrapped bundles of methamphetamine during a routine pat-down search inside his cell at the Federal Correctional Institution in Beaumont. The discovery came as a shock to prison officials, who had been unaware of Rosales-Lara’s dangerous activities.

“This sentence sends a clear message that our federal prisons are not safe havens for drug traffickers,” Combs stated. “We will continue to deploy our resources to ensure the safety and security of our institutions.”

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an intensive nationwide effort by the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels, and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), while safeguarding communities from violent crime. The operation leverages the full force of the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

“The FBI’s relentless pursuit of drug traffickers has once again resulted in a significant conviction,” said Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Houston Field Office. “We are committed to dismantling criminal networks that threaten our communities.” The investigation into Rosales-Lara was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Grove, who prosecuted the case.

This sentencing marks another victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and organized crime. As justice is served, it serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who attempt to bring illegal drugs into our prisons and communities.
