Zuni Man Sentenced for Violent Shooting in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE – A chilling scene of urban violence came to a courtroom conclusion as Devin Wade Wyaco, 34, a member of the Zuni Pueblo, was sentenced to 10 years and one month in federal prison for the shooting of a local man. The sentence, handed down with no chance of parole, marks the culmination of a case that has shocked the Albuquerque community.

On September 19, 2024, Wyaco fired a handgun from the passenger seat of a moving vehicle at two bicyclists following a heated dispute. His bullets struck one victim in the abdomen, causing significant injury but not fatal harm. The survivor was rushed to a local hospital, where he received immediate medical attention.

Wyaco’s actions were not just criminal but also illegal under federal law. As a previously convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. His guilty plea covered three felony charges: assault with a dangerous weapon; using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence; and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Upon his release, Wyaco will be under the watchful eye of supervised release for an additional five years. Today’s sentencing was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Philip Russell of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office.

The investigation into this brutal shooting was a joint effort between the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office and the Zuni Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Zachary C. Jones is responsible for prosecuting the case with unwavering determination.

Wyaco’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who violate the trust of their community and break the law with violent disregard. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story, ensuring that justice is served and the public remains informed.
