Maryland Man Sentenced to 16 Years for Girlfriend’s Husband Murder

WALDORF, MD – In a chilling incident that unfolded in December 2022, Keyon Slaughter, 28, of Waldorf, Maryland, has been sentenced to 16 years behind bars for the murder of Dana Bailey, Jr. The announcement came from U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Slaughter pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed on June 20, 2025. He faced justice again on September 12, 2025, when the Honorable Danya Dayson handed down his sentence. Slaughter is also facing five years of supervised release following his prison term.

The facts of the case are as grim as the outcome. On December 5, 2022, at around 10:15 a.m., Slaughter entered Bailey’s residence in Southeast D.C. and confronted Mr. Bailey with a .40 caliber handgun, shooting him once in the chest before fleeing the scene.

At the time of the murder, Slaughter was already on supervised probation for a 2019 armed robbery conspiracy conviction in Charles County, Maryland. He was arrested in July 2023 and has been detained since.

Joining the U.S. Attorney in the announcement was Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Both commended the Homicide Branch of MPD for their work on the case, as well as Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles R. Jones for his role in the prosecution.

Slaughter’s girlfriend, who was indicted with him and pleaded guilty to obstructing justice, also faces her own consequences. The justice system has spoken, and Slaughter will now pay for his brutal crime against Dana Bailey, Jr.
