OKLAHOMA CITY – Davy Eugene King, 52, of Oklahoma City, will spend the next seven and a half years in federal prison after recklessly firing a weapon outside his home and being caught with an illegal firearm, U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester announced today. King was sentenced to 90 months followed by three years of supervised release.
The incident unfolded on February 2-3, 2025, when Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting. Witnesses stated King became belligerent, stormed outside, and began discharging a firearm both at individuals and into the air before fleeing. Miraculously, no one was injured by his brazen act. Officers quickly located King inside a nearby gas station, where they witnessed him discard the weapon across the counter before being taken into custody.
This wasn’t King’s first dance with the law. Court records reveal a lengthy and disturbing criminal history in Oklahoma County District Court. He’s previously been convicted of second-degree murder (CF-1990-5376), possession of a stolen vehicle (CF-2014-4630), attempted grand larceny (CF-2014-5432), and domestic abuse with aggravated injury after a prior felony conviction (CF-2014-2946). A federal Grand Jury indicted King on March 4, 2025, for illegal firearm possession due to his extensive criminal background. He later pleaded guilty on April 19, 2025, admitting to possessing the weapon despite being legally prohibited.
U.S. District Judge Scott L. Palk delivered the sentence on September 17, 2025, emphasizing the severity of King’s actions. Judge Palk specifically cited King’s history of violent and domestic offenses, and underscored that the sentence reflected not only the illegal possession of the firearm, but also the act of firing it, creating a dangerous situation for the community. This isn’t just about a gun; it’s about a pattern of reckless disregard for public safety.
The case was a joint effort between the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laney Ellis, a City of Oklahoma City attorney working with a federal Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) grant, led the prosecution. PSN brings together law enforcement at all levels to combat violent crime and gun violence, making neighborhoods safer. This case falls under “Operation Shots Fired,” the Western District of Oklahoma’s PSN initiative, targeting individuals who discharge firearms during criminal activity.
