Marquis Davis Charged in Cordova Robbery & Shooting

United States Attorney D. Michael Dunavant has filed a federal criminal complaint against 18-year-old Marquis Davis in connection with a brazen robbery and shooting at the Exotic Smoke Shop in Cordova, Tennessee.

The incident occurred on October 31, 2025, when Davis, armed with a firearm, demanded money from an employee. After taking approximately $400, he shot her in the abdomen and fled the scene. The victim was fortunate to be saved by a bystander and a retired paramedic until medical personnel arrived.

Davis was apprehended after encountering federal agents who had recently eaten at a nearby restaurant. They fired their weapons, striking Davis, who was then taken into custody along with his firearm and $370 in cash.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Davis was rushed to the hospital for surgery, where he survived. Meanwhile, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years for his federal charges of business robbery and discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Additional state charges include Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Robbery, and Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.

The case is before District Judge Thomas L. Parker of the Western District of Tennessee, with Assistant United States Attorneys Jermal Blanchard and Greg Wagner prosecuting on behalf of the United States. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
