30 Years in Prison for Gang Member
A ranking member of the Black P-Stones gang has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for engaging in numerous gang-related crimes.
Marcellus Williams, 27, of Newport News, Virginia, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for his involvement in the gang’s activities, including shootings of rival gang members, robberies, and drug dealing.
Williams, also known as ‘Math,’ ‘P-Shooter,’ and ‘Manny,’ was a ‘First Superior’ in the Black P-Stones, a violent street gang that operated primarily in the Beechmont, Courthouse Green, and Woodview neighborhoods in the Denbigh area of Newport News.
As a First Superior, Williams directed and participated in the gang’s criminal activities, including robberies, attempted murder, and marijuana sales. He was involved in several shootings, including one on April 27, 2008, where he and other Black P-Stones members targeted a rival gang member on Warwick Boulevard in Newport News.
Williams also participated in a shooting in Williamsburg, Virginia, on Dec. 10, 2008, where approximately seven to eight bullets were fired at a rival gang member’s home, and in a shooting on March 9, 2009, where he and other Black P-Stones members shot at the home of a rival gang member in retaliation for a previous altercation.
The investigation was led by the FBI’s Safe Streets Peninsula Task Force, with the assistance of the Newport News Police Department, James City County Police Department, and the Virginia State Police. Williams was charged in a superseding indictment on Dec. 9, 2013, and pleaded guilty on April 15, 2014, to one count of racketeering conspiracy and one count of possessing and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell, U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente, and Special Agent in Charge Royce E. Curtin made the announcement after sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen.
